Comacon worked with ARTC, its contractors and subsequent Alliance partner in various roles in multi-disciplinary project and communication teams. This project involved a 36 kilometre freight line within four Local Government Areas in south western Sydney; a large and linguistically and culturally diverse region where, in one LGA alone, over seventy different languages are spoken. Key stakeholders included Council personnel, Members of Parliament, Transport for New South Wales, Environment Protection Agency, state government agencies, transport groups, business owners, professional organisations, sporting groups, adjacent infrastructure projects, residents and the media. Four Community Liaison Groups were established to enable ongoing consultation and liaison with stakeholders and the quick resolution of issues. This proved very successful and prevented the escalation of issues.
